For expert, MySQL is a love affair, but for beginners, it is a nightmare. In order to free beginners from the nightmare, the new version of VPSrobots comes with database management functionality which is a built-in graphic user interface (GUI) database management module. Although not quite as powerful as MySQL command shell, VPSrobots database module allows you handle the basic tasks for your databases, which enables you to easily manage databases and users. This article will walk you through how to manage MySQL/MariaDB databases and users with VPSrobots. You can add, modify, and delete databases and users as well as user privileges. Note that in order to synchronize databases, VPSrobots periodically auto refreshes database module to retrieves the latest data. Before you begin, we suggest you to read our instruction on what is database management module on VPSrobots.
Creating a database
After connected to your server, click on the Database tab to open it. Click on Ctreate Database option and a window pops up. Type a name for database, character set is selected by utf8 by default, currently, VPSrobots only supports utf8. At last, click on Create button at the bottom right corner.
After this, a window pops up, you are told that the database is successfully created. Click on OK button. You will find the created database listed in database table. If you want to drop the database, click on Drop icon.
Adding a user for MySQL/MariaDB
Click on Edit button next to a database to add a user for MySQL. Once click on Edit button, a window pops up. The users who can access the database are listed in this table. Click on Add user button at the bottom right corner.
There are two methods to add users for MySQL/MariaDB. The first one is to choose the users from the existed user list and add it for MySQL by clicking on Add button. The second one is to create a new user and add it for MySQL. Fill out the new information including user name, password, and host. Depending on your need, choose the host option from the drop-down list. At last, click on Create button. Once created, the new user is listed in the existing user table and database user table.
The existed user and the new user are listed in the database user table. You can remove these added user from the database by clicking on Revoke icon.
Regarding database privileges, you can click on Edit icon to edit privileges for users. Once you clicked on the icon, you are taken to database privilege page. On this page, you can edit privileges for users. You can select all of privileges or a part of them depending on your need. If you want to grant the selected privileges to other users, select Grant option at the top of this page. At last, click on Alter button at the bottom right corner.
Click on Export icon of the database and a window pops up, and click on File icon and select a folder on which the file will be located. And then click on Export button to export the file from the database.
Click on Import icon and a window pops up. Click on File icon and select the importing file, click on Import button to start importing the file and to the database.
Creating a user
On the Database module, click on Create User option, which takes you to Create User page. Enter the new user information including user name, host and password. You can edit the global privileges for the new user as well. If you intend to grant the selected privileges to other users, select Grant option. At last, click on Create button at the bottom right corner. And a window pops up and tells you that the new user is created successfully. You can delete the created user by clicking on Drop icon.
Editing user privilege
On user section, click on Edit privilege link next to a user, which takes you to user privilege page. On this page, you can edit the privileges for the user. Select a part of privileges or all of them and if you intend to grant these selected privileges to other user, click Grant option. At last, click on Alter button at the bottom right corner. After that, a window pops up and you are told that the privilege modification is saved.
Changing user’s password
Click on replace password link next to user, and a window pops up. On this window, type the new password and confirm it again. At last, click on Alter button.
Quick creation of database and user
Click on Quick creation option and a window pops up. Enter a new database information and a user information. At last, click on Create button at the bottom right corner. A window pops up and you are told that the database and user are created successfully. By default, VPSrobots client will grant all database privileges for the new user.
Install phpMyAdmin for MySQL by clicking Install phpMyAdmin option at the top of right corner on Database module. After that, a phpMyAdmin pane pops up, and you need to fill out the required content. First, you need to set the installation directory. Second, set a MySQL password for phpMyAdmin. Third, set up phpMyAdmin access. At last, click Install button at the bottom right corner.
After installation, a window pops up, and you are told phpMyAdmin installed successfully. After this, you will find Install phpMyAdmin option is replaced by Open phpMyAdmin option, and click it to phpMyAdmin login page. Enter username as phpmyadmin and your password to sign in phpMyAdmin panel.
If you want to change phpMyAdmin configuration, click configure phpMyAdmin option, and change the installation directory, MySQL password for phpMyAdmin, phpMyAdmin access on phpMyAdmin configuration pane. At last, click Apply button to take effect.
